NFV-I Platform Capability Registry Governance Process

The Designated Expert Group

The registry will be managed by a Designated Expert Group, comprised of representatives from at least two ETSI NFV ISG Members or Participant companies.

Any individual representing an ETSI NFV ISG Member or Participant can self-nominate to be a member of the Designated Expert Group, provided that the number of Designated Experts per Member or Participant company does not exceed two.

All Designated Expert nominations will be proposed by the ETSI NFV SOL WG for ratification by the ETSI NFV ISG Plenary.

Companies that either directly consume or implement some, or all, of the platform capabilities, are strongly encouraged to participate in the Designated Expert Group.

The list of Designated Experts, along with their company affiliation, will be made publicly available.

Designated Expert Group responsibilities

The Designated Expert Group will be responsible for specifying and enforcing the request evaluation criteria. Proposed request evaluation criteria will be submitted by the Designated Experts Group for endorsement by the ETSI NFV SOL WG and ratification by the ETSI NFV ISG Plenary. Ratified evaluation criteria will be made publicly available.

The Designated Expert Group will be responsible for specification & enforcement of operational procedures, such as meeting frequency, request response time, etc.  Proposed operational procedures will be submitted by the Designated Experts Group for endorsement by the ETSI NFV SOL WG and ratification by the ETSI NFV ISG Plenary. Ratified operational procedures will be made publicly available.

The Designated Expert Group will be responsible for scheduling request review meetings. The proceedings of these meetings will be made publicly available.

The Designated Expert Group will be responsible for review and disposition of all requests to create, modify, or delete registry entries. The request review outcomes will be made publicly available.

In case the Designated Experts Group cannot reach consensus on the disposition of a request in a reasonable time, the issue will be raised and escalated to the ETSI NFV Technical Steering Committee (TSC) by an ETSI NFV ISG working group official (participating ex-officio on the Designated Experts Group mailing list, or as formal Designated Expert). The ETSI NFV TSC will prepare an ISG contribution with sufficient input to facilitate decision-making by the ETSI NFV ISG Plenary on the disposition of the request. The final decision for the disposition of the request will require ETSI NFV ISG Plenary approval.

Registry requests

Registry requests for creation, modification, deprecation or deletion of registry entries will be made by submitting a request to the Designated Expert Group mailing list. A template shall be created to support registry requests.

Creation, modification, deprecation or deletion of “generic” registry entries in the registry will require consensus among all Designated Experts.

Creation, modification, deprecation or deletion of “company specific” registry entries in the registry shall be submitted by a representative of that company.

Maintaining the relationship to ETSI specifications

Current platform capability categories are defined as part of the ETSI GS NFV-IFA 011 specification, and are mapped to TOSCA data types and YANG as part of ETSI GS NFV-SOL 001 and ETSI GS NFV-SO L006 specifications respectively.

The Designated Experts will be responsible for reviewing the new versions of the specification listed above and making sure that the registry is changed accordingly.
